How to calculate a percentage

A percentage is a number expressed as a fraction of 100. To find what percent one number is of another, divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100.

Percentage = (Part ÷ Whole) × 100

For example, if a student gets 22 questions right out of 25: 22 ÷ 25 × 100 = 88%.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Divide the percentage by 100, then multiply by the number. For 20% of 150: 20 ÷ 100 × 150 = 30.

How do I find my marks percentage?

Add up the marks you obtained, add up the total marks, then divide obtained by total and multiply by 100. The marks calculator above does this for any number of subjects.

What is the difference between percent change and percent difference?

Percent change compares a new value to an old starting value. Percent difference compares two values with neither as the starting point, using their average as the base.
